Chelsea are looking to beat Liverpool and Tottenham to the signing of Partizan Belgrade’s 18-year-old attacking midfielder Lazar Markovic, according to the Daily Mail.Former Chelsea boss Avram Grant, currently coaching Partizan, is understood to have recommended Markovic, who earned his first cap for Serbia in February.Partizan are said to want around £16m and would also like to have him back on loan. The Sun report that David Luiz is set to return to action against Blackburn this weekend. The Chelsea defender, who has been out with a hamstring problem, is aiming to prove his fitness in time for the Champions Leage final.Meanwhile, The Daily Mail report that manager Mark Hughes will get a £1m bonus if he keeps QPR in the Premier League.Hughes’ assistants Mark Bowen and Eddie Niedzwiecki are also said to be in line for big rewards if Rangers stay up.And former Manchester United forward Teddy Sheringham has told the Daily Mirror he believes QPR could do his old team a favour.United will secure the title if they win their final match of the season and Manchester City don’t beat Rangers.Sheringham said: “The season has had many twists and turns to it, so who knows?”“QPR need to get a result to be safe and Bolton could go to Stoke and win and overtake QPR. So they have to have the mindset to go to Manchester and know that they need to get a draw.“We will keep our fingers crossed that there might be one more little twist in the tail.”Follow West London Sport on TwitterFind us on Facebook
Related Posts Over the past 10 days, Chinese downloaders have flooded – and in some cases, crashed – major P2P and torrent sites after rumors that the government would be effectively disabling all media downloads in the country. The State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) has closed hundreds of file-sharing sites since last week as part of an ongoing effort to fight piracy and porn. However, many users say these sources are one of few ways to access films, books, and music banned in China, whether the media is lewd or merely politically dissident. What will media-seeking Chinese citizens do when their links to the wider world are finally severed?A document called Regulations on the Protection of the Right of Communication through Information, created by SARFT in 2006, was posted on its website late last week, just before the agency rounded up and shut down around 530 bittorrent sites, including the 50-million-users-strong BTChina. SARFT states that websites are not allowed to provide audio or video products without specific licenses.SARFT rep Cao Yunxia told China Tech News that “illegal audio-visual service websites have brought great harm to the media industry and the administration will continue to seek and destroy illegal Internet audio-visual program providers.”Following these sudden and unforeseen website closures, many Chinese rushed to download what may be their final foreign films and albums.“I may never be able to download Hollywood movies or classical records again,” one college student told China Daily. When China’s largest file-sharing site, VeryCD, has server issues yesterday, many speculated that the government had shut that website down, as well. However, VeryCD’s users still have time to continue downloading content, although it is unclear how much time may actually remain. While VeryCD has applied for a license to distribute its content, it has not yet received official sanction from the Chinese government and has been warned by SARFT about allowing the distribution of unauthorized multimedia content throughout the country. The site’s owners hace said they may suspend downloads over the coming weekend to avoid further trouble with SARFT, and they were unable to comment on the long-term future of the website. As our loyal readers may recall, China’s ongoing censorship of content and restriction of free speech earned it a spot on our Top 10 Failures of 2009 list. Although it is hardly the in the domain of a humble blogger to dictate national policies on media, we feel a great deal of empathy for those who download content not only because it’s free online but because they have no other way to access it.From Ben-Hur to Brokeback Mountain, check out this list of some of the films banned in China. What would you do as an Internet user if illegal downloads were your only way to see content like these films or to listen to many kinds of Western music? Panaji: The St. Estevam parish priest has said he cannot carry out the final rites of social activist Father Bismarque Dias without a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from his relatives, North Goa Collector told the Goa State Human Rights Commission (GSHRC) on Thursday. The commission was hearing a petition filed by advocate Aires Rodrigues, who has said Fr. Dias’ body has been in the morgue of the State-owned Goa Medical College (GMC) hospital for over 17 months. The collector, in his reply to the GSHRC, said the Tiswadi Block Development Officer was directed to arrange the final rites of Fr. Dias by April 15 and to liaise with the parish priest of St. Estevam with the assistance of the local Panchayat. The commission was further told that the parish priest has told the sarpanch that as per the church rules N.O.C is required from the family and the funeral rites of Fr. Dias cannot be conducted without it.The GSHRC adjourned the hearing to April 27.‘All tests have been done’ Advocate Rodrigues has noted in his complaint that all the forensic tests have been done and the viscera report have been received, and therefore the mortal remains of Fr. Dias are not required for any further examination. He has also said that if nobody claims Fr. Dias’ body to hold the last rites it would be a social responsibility to ensure that his human right are not violated any further.

MIAMI GARDENS — When the woeful New York Jets gave up a 97-yard touchdown run to fall behind by 10 points Sunday, Rex Ryan cursed and hollered and angrily swung his arms and stomped along the sideline.Nearly 30 minutes remained in the season, and Ryan wasn’t done coaching yet. With a breakout performance by Geno Smith, the Jets rallied to beat the Miami Dolphins 37-24, and Ryan ordered a fake punt with four minutes left that sealed the victory. It left the coach in a jovial mood, even though the comeback probably won’t be enough to save his job.“I think we all expect what’s going to happen is going to happen,” Ryan said. “I’m not afraid of what lies ahead, I can tell you that.”Smith had his best game in a rocky season, throwing for a career-high 358 yards and three touchdowns. That more than negated a 97-yard run by Lamar Miller, the longest play from scrimmage in Dolphins history. The game was entertaining but mostly meaningless because it involved two teams out of the playoff chase. And with the Jets sitting out the postseason for the fourth consecutive year, owner Woody Johnson is widely expected to fire Ryan, and perhaps general manager John Idzik. The Jets (4-12) finished with their worst record since 2007.“This is a great team — just, we haven’t had a great record,” Ryan said. “But as far as how you build a team, it’s there.”Ryan is 46-50 in six seasons — not including 4-2 in the postseason — but remains popular with his players, and they dumped a bucket of sports drink on him when the game ended.“We love coach Ryan,” Smith said. “I’d love to play for him my entire career.”Ryan continually tried to deflect postgame questions about his future, saying Johnson will talk to him “at the appropriate time.” They met briefly after the game.“I said, ‘Hey, boss, I’m going to give the whole team a game ball. Sorry.’ And that’s exactly what we did. He’s good with it,” Ryan said. The Dolphins (8-8) missed a shot at their first winning season since 2008, which is the last time they made the playoffs. Owner Stephen Ross has said coach Joe Philbin will be back for a fourth season in 2015, and he’ll have disharmony to address after benching star receiver Mike Wallace for the entire second half.Wallace was punished for arguing with the coaching staff at halftime. He declined to talk to reporters after the game, and instead had teammate Brandon Gibson speak on his behalf, which made for a bizarre scene as they stood side by side at their lockers. Why was Gibson doing the talking?“I just don’t want my dog to say anything wrong,” Gibson said. “Differences in opinion led to Mike not playing in the second half, so that’s what we’re going to say about coaches. … Things that were communicated probably were misunderstood.”The half-empty stadium and also-ran status of the teams created the atmosphere of an exhibition game, and with the stakes modest, Ryan threw in an occasional frill. The Jets ran a reverse out of the wildcat, with receiver Jeremy Kerley throwing incomplete to Smith. The fake punt came when New York clung to a 27-24 lead. Punter Ryan Quigley lobbed a 38-yard pass to tight end Zach Sudfeld on fourth-and-12.“Somebody had the guts to call it,” Ryan said. “I don’t know who, but he’s probably standing in front of you.”On the next play, Smith hit Jeff Cumberland with a 23-yard pass for the clinching touchdown.New York came in ranked last in the NFL in passing, but Smith went 20 of 25 and had a passer rating of 158.3 — the only perfect rating this year by a quarterback throwing at least seven passes, according to STATS. The South Florida native helped the Jets achieve a season-high points total.Even so, the game might have been Smith’s final start for the Jets. They’re expected to seek quarterback help in the draft or free agency.“I have complete confidence in myself,” Smith said, “but consistency is the thing that I’m searching for and I’m getting better with.”Eric Decker caught 10 passes for a career-high 221 yards, including a 74-yard touchdown, the longest play by the Jets this year. David Harris had 2½ of the Jets’ seven sacks of Ryan Tannehill.Miller ran for a career-high 178 yards and reached the 1,000-yard milestone for the first time. His touchdown was the longest run allowed by the Jets, and the longest play from scrimmage in the NFL this season.NOTES: Jets DT Sheldon Richardson left the game in the second quarter with a head injury and didn’t return. Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s six-hitting prowess is still intact and the Indian team management must give him the license to attack from the word go during the World Cup, suggests senior off-spinner Harbhajan Singh.A trend shows that Dhoni has been taking the game deep before going for a final assault but his one-time national and current CSK teammate wants him to go back to his big-hitting ways.”I feel he is at his best when he hits from the onset. Some of his best innings have come when he started the onslaught straightaway. I feel the team management should give him and Hardik Pandya the licence to bat the way they want to. No restrictions, only go for the jugular at No 5,” Harbhajan told PTI during an interview. For Harbahajan, top-order batsmen Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul can build the innings, so Dhoni has the freedom to attack. But what about his problems in the middle overs when spinners like Mitchell Santner or Nathan Lyon will be operational?”That exactly is my point. The Dhoni of the old would hit a six off the second ball off any spinner and those are big sixes. He should and can still do it as I have seen at the CSK nets. Uske chhakkon mein bahot jaan hai (He still hits mighty sixes),” said the member of the victorious 2011 World Cup squad.Harbhajan wants Dhoni to have the same intimidating presence that he and Virender Sehwag had some during their best years of international cricket.advertisement”I can tell you how a bowler’s mind works. Suppose I am bowling to Kevin Pietersen and Ian Bell in tandem, I would be more worried about KP than Bell. I could bowl a couple of dot balls to KP but he had the ability to take me on. Bell on the other hand would push for singles. Dhoni like KP can intimidate bowlers. He has that effect,” said one of India’s greatest spinners. On the team front, Harbhajan said that there is a bit of worry about the number 4 and 6 slots going into the World Cup.”I don’t see anyone except for KL Rahul fitting into that No. 4 slot. So that’s a bit of a worry and also No 6 slot where Kedar Jadhav will play. I hope that Jadhav gets fully fit before the South Africa game (June 5) as it is a very important slot,” said the member of the two-time World championship winning team.Apart from world’s best batsman Virat Kohli, the other game changer for India would be Jasprit Bumrah.”Sachin Tendulkar called him world’s best fast bowler at the moment. Indeed he is, for the impact he has created. If you take Bumrah out of that India line-up, it’s like you rip a heart out of the body. He is that precious. He is your Virat Kohli of Indian bowling,” said Harbhajan.Harbhajan’s four semi-finalists are India, Australia, England and New Zealand.Asked why no West Indies or Pakistan, the veteran off-spinner opined, “I am not saying they can’t but New Zealand is a team that does well in big events. Best part of that set up is their boys do the basics well on a consistent basis. That makes a huge difference in a big event,” he concluded. Also Read | Sourav Ganguly among 3 Indian commentators for Cricket World Cup 2019Also Read | All-rounders will have a say in 2019 ICC World Cup: Clive Lloyd
From Dubbo, Port Macquarie, Tasmania, Yass and Cootamundra, no trip has been too big in order to play against the countries’ best Touch Footballers and gain extra experience. So when one of their own. Leah Percy, recently made the Australian Women’s Open team – the first time a Victorian has ever made an Open’s team at a national level – naturally another trip was quickly booked. A busload of Percy’s Victorian teammates decided to make the big trip from Melbourne to Mudgee, approximately 11 hours, to support Percy in her first encounter against the Kiwis, as Elies El Chaar explains. “Once Leah had been confirmed to play for Australia in the Women’s Open team, a couple of us decided to put a supporter bus together for the 11 hour drive to Mudgee. At one stage we had 20 names down not including Leah’s family,” El Chaar said. “Her family and friends have always been very supportive of Leah and very confident in her ability and we were all looking forward to watching Leah play in the Australian colours. To her closest friends and especially her family it had been a long time waiting. So whenever or wherever she had been playing for Australia we were all going to be there for her.”“There were 20 supporters in Mudgee who were all extremely proud of Leah. The Victorian Touch community really looks up to Leah and her achievements. She has definitely created a pathway for future representative players.”The busload of Percy’s friends decided to make the most of the opportunity, getting some Touch Football in for themselves along the way. This included a stopover in Cootamundra to play a game as well as a couple of games against the Mudgee Mudcrabs while in Mudgee. “We took off about 9.00am Wednesday morning before slowly getting to Cootamundra at about 4.00pm and playing Coota at 6:30pm. On the Thursday night we played Mudgee on the outside fields before the Trans Tasman began.”“On the Saturday we played our third game and by then we had quite a bit of interest in our game. People wanted to be involved and even the Mudgee Guardian gave us a write up. Mudgee is competing in the New South Wales Country Championships soon and we just look for games where we can as we enjoy different challenges.”The Victoria’s Secrets team has travelled far and wide over the past 12 months, starting with last year’s New South Wales Country Championships in Dubbo. The opportunity to regularly play against high quality teams has helped their teams be more competitive, including the Victorian Women’s Open team which made the 2012 National Touch League semi finals, with Percy being named the Player of the Series. “We feel the more comps we play in the better we get and the more we learn. Not only that, it exposes our players to selectors and elite coaches,” he said. “We now look for our next adventure. We are looking to inviting more teams to Melbourne to play us.”
Sip On the Original Stormtrooper Beer While You Wait for the Next Star Wars Movie Helpful Wine Terminology So You Sound Like You Know What You’re Talking About With the rise of online dating, meeting new people should theoretically be easier. There are tons of people on Tinder, OkCupid, and Match (among others) that you might never otherwise have crossed paths with. But online dating can feel maze-like and overwhelming. How do you start a conversation with someone? What should you include on your profile to get noticed? How do you move from messaging to meeting up for coffee? Should you post that sweet selfie with your abs showing so she can see your rockin’ bod or should you post a picture of you out and about with friends instead? Do potential dates really need to know that you got burned in your last relationship?Never fear. We talked to Buffie Bell Lily, the woman behind Wine Pairings, a Charleston-based dating service, about how to create an online dating profile that will get you noticed and get you dating. Go get ‘em tiger.First Impressions: PhotosHumans are visual creatures, for better or worse, and so most people don’t get past the photos on a person’s profile. Proceed with caution when it comes to choosing your photos.A successful profile photo will make the difference between someone actually reading your profile information or not. To boot, photos that work are not just a matter of whether or not a person is attractive, Lily says. Photos on dating websites need to tell potential dates a little bit about the person.“This is the first thing people see,” Lily says, “so photos matter a lot more than people may realize.”Be ActiveLily suggests choosing photos that show you doing something you love. “If you like soccer, choose pictures of you playing soccer. Even a picture of you out and about on the town–at a museum, at a park–will do.” Don’t have any pictures like that? No worries. “Go somewhere you love with a friend and have them take pictures of you. People really respond to photos like that.” Lily says photos along those lines suggest that you’re active and you’re passionate about something, which is a huge plus.Be SoloShe also suggests leaving other people out of the equation. Just post photos of yourself, lest potential dates get confused. “I had a client whose profile picture was him with his niece, and [a potential date] saw that and thought he had a kid.” Same with sisters and women who are just friends. Save the guesswork. But Don’t Be That GuyNo matter what, Lily says to avoid selfies at all costs. “Don’t you dare put a picture of you in a bathroom with your shirt off,” Lily says. “It makes you look like you have no friends, and it’s a definite turn-off.”Second Wave: InformationCongratulations. Your photos piqued someone’s interest enough for them to start reading about you. Now here’s where you turn that raised eyebrow of curiosity into a message saying hello. First and foremost: we get it. It can be weird to write about yourself in a way that is honest and enticing yet humble. This part requires a sort of Goldilocks balancing act of figuring out just the right amount of information to put in your profile.Be HonestBefore you try to figure out if you should list every book you’ve ever read or just write “I like to read” you should know something very important.“Just be real,” Lily says. “Women are sick of being lied to.”This advice goes both ways, of course. No matter who you are, do not lie on your profile. Don’t lie about your height. Don’t lie about how much exercise you get every week. Remember: eventually you two will meet in person, and the jig will be up. Lily says there’s no point anyways, because your date will eventually find out. No matter the lie, you shouldn’t expect them to be happy. Even if you lie about something as benign as if you’ve read A Song Of Ice And Fire, it signals to potential SOs that you’re not trustworthy. Entice, But Don’t OverwhelmLily says this part of your online dating profile requires a balancing act: giving enough information to let on whether or not you have common interests with the person reading, but not writing so much that it feels like your life story.“Potential dates need to know something about you, or they’re not going to bother messaging you,” Lily says.Do you like reading science fiction? All right. That’s a worthy thing to mention. Do you need to list every book you’ve ever read? No. In fact, any and all information dumps are to be avoided like the plague. Not only do people not want to slog through that much information, you run the risk of telling people so much about yourself that there’s nothing left to talk about.Related: Date Night Grooming Tips You Can’t Afford To IgnoreOkay, Okay, Here’s What We MeanSo we’ve been talking at you about the Goldilocks profile. Why don’t we just show you what we mean?Bad: I’m Jim, 34, accountant. I like going out with friends and reading. Why it’s bad: Who doesn’t like going out with friends? And what the heck do you read? Magazines? Blogs? Obscure 19th century Russian fiction? There’s not a lot to go off of here, so it’ll be difficult to start a conversation. Theoretically, someone could ask you what you like to read, but that’s running the risk that you don’t have anything in common depending on your answer. You need to give a little bit of a hint of what you’re about.Equally as bad: I like binging on Netflix, especially [insert all the shows you’ve ever watched here]. I also read science fiction in my free time; I’m particularly a fan of Asimov’s Foundation series. I also quite enjoy Ender’s Game, the Dune chronicles, and Neuromancer. I don’t really like the Song of Ice and Fire series because I find it to be full of plot holes, and Martin’s portrayal of a fantasy-based feudal Europe to be tone-deaf. Other books I like: anything by Terry Pratchett, etc., etc.Why it’s bad: First of all, information dumps are never good. Walls of text are almost guaranteed to repel people. Second of all, if you go into all of the books you like to read and why you like to read them, and even the books you don’t like and maybe even why your first grade teacher really was the wooooorst, you risk two things: first, that you will come off as a know-it-all who isn’t open to conversation and, second, even if that’s not a turn-off to a potential date, there will be nothing to talk about if that person wants to message you.Good: I enjoy reading science fiction (current read: Martian Time-Slip; favorite read: Watership Down) and taking my two aussies for hikes on the weekends, but I also love getting lazy with Netflix (Archer and Jessica Jones are my current faves) and ice cream. Why it’s good: You give the potential date a little bit more to work with. You like science fiction, so they can ask what your favorite books are. You take your aussies hiking? Where? How old are your dogs? Leave some breadcrumbs, and the right person will definitely follow.Third and Final Step: MessagingHoly crap, you’ve made it this far. Don’t freak out. This is easier than you think.Lily has advice for you, whether you want to start a conversation or you want to pursue a conversation someone else started.Give Compliments Specific To The PersonIf you’re going to message someone first, this is one of the most important pieces of advice we can give you, but this piece of advice is relevant whether you message first or not.No woman wants that generic “Hey beautiful” message. “For all we know, you’ve sent that to a dozen ladies,” Lily says. While compliments are always welcome, make them specific to the person and, even more importantly, about the person’s interests, not their physical features. This will show that you’ve read their profile, and that you’re interested in more than just looks. For example: does the person you’re interested in mention hiking with dogs? Say something like, “It’s crazy impressive that you can handle two energetic dogs and climb a mountain.”Questions Are Your FriendQuestions will open up the conversation, giving you a better chance of turning an interaction into a date. While a specific compliment will differentiate you from other people sending messages, a compliment by itself doesn’t leave a lot of room to start a conversation. There’s nothing much to say in response other than “thanks.” So that’s where questions come into play. What do you find interesting about that person? What do you want to know more about?Let’s stick with the hiking with dogs example. So you like that that person hikes with their dogs. You could ask what their favorite hikes are, how old the dogs are, how long they’ve been hiking, etc.Asking questions will also give you the chance to gauge the interest of the person you’re talking to; if they ask questions in kind that’s a good sign. Likewise, if they don’t ask questions in return or if they give short answers, perhaps you should move onto the next person.Know When To Take It OfflineAs nerve-racking as it is to go from messaging to meeting in person, we assure you that it’s well worth it and way easier than you think, like ripping off a band-aid.“If you’re getting along with someone online, you’ll most likely be fine in person,” Lily says. At any rate, she says, it’s important to find out as quickly as possible if your positive interactions will translate face-to-face.Lily suggests asking someone out after no more than three days of messaging–and even that is stretching it. Messaging, she says, is there in order to test the waters, not so you can establish an entire relationship. “Do it sooner rather than later so you still have stuff to talk about,” she says. You don’t want to waste all of your conversational energy and curiosity on messaging. It’s also important to get to know each other offline so you can also gauge physical chemistry. When you’re ready to ask someone out, use what you know about them to suggest a date relevant to their interests. “If you talked about art, meet up at an art museum. Even a farmer’s market or a coffee shop,” Lily says. Choosing a location relevant to that person’s interests and your ongoing conversation shows that you’re paying attention; to boot, locations like farmer’s markets and coffee shops are low-stakes, casual atmospheres. With these online dating profile tips you’ll be sure to make a connection or five. Well, what are you waiting for? It’s time for you to get out there.
